The story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden is familiar to most of us. Placed in a paradise provided with everything they needed, they were given only one command by God: not to eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, lest they die (Genesis 2:16-17). However, Satan, disguised as a serpent, convinced Eve to eat the fruit, promising she and Adam would become like God. Eve ate and gave some to Adam, who ate as well (Genesis 3:1-6).

Instantly aware of their nakedness, they made loincloths from fig leaves and hid when they heard God walking in the garden. When God confronted them about eating from the forbidden tree, Adam responded, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me from the tree, and I ate” (Genesis 3:12). While Adam seemingly blamed Eve, he was ultimately blaming God for his sin. This leads to a crucial truth for us to remember: none of us will make it as Christians if we do not learn to overcome temptation in our lives.
