Rest: A Fruit of Righteousness
Everyone needs rest. Everyone desires to rest. The longer we go without rest, the greater our desire for it grows.
From the beginning, physical rest is a prominent aspect of the Bible. God rested after His Creative Work was done (Genesis 2:1-3). Jesus acknowledged mans' need for physical rest telling His apostles after a lengthy period of much work to "come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while" (Mark 6:31).
The most prominent rest spoke of by inspired writings is spiritual rest. God gave the children of Israel rest as He was present with them in the wilderness (Exodus 33:14).
The ultimate rest is eternal rest! Eternal rest consists of peace with God, an absence of work and troubles and deliverance from experiences in this physical life.
