Ministers of Mercy – Part One
The word diakonos is most often used in this sense to refer to servants of God, Christ, the gospel, or the church. Paul uses diakonos most frequently: Usually in reference to Christian workers. Apostles, teachers, evangelists, or general helpers of the church. He refers to Apollos, Tychicus, Epaphras, Timothy, Phoebe, himself and Christ as servants (Romans 15:8a; 16:1; 1 Corinthians 3:5a; 2 Corinthians 6:4a; Ephesians 6:21; Colossians 1:7)
An honest question that we might ask this morning is this, “Why is there a need in the body of Christ for official servants? Aren’t we all called to be servants of Christ?”
