Living Peaceable Lives
The call to each of us to become a follower of Jesus Christ is a call to become a different person. Earlier in this letter, Romans 6:4, Paul reminds us that we who are Christians have been buried with Christ through our baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from his own death through “the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.” In his first letter to the Christians in Corinth, Paul tells us that because we are “in Christ” we are “a new creation.” “The old” he says “has passed away” and “the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Now we are to “be transformed by the renewing of [our] minds” and in so doing show others “what is the good and acceptable and perfect” will of God (Romans 12:2).
