In What we have come to call the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus addressed the people of His day and told them they were two things: "you are the salt of the earth" (Matthew 5:13) and that "you are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:14). These two elements, salt and light, impact their environment. Salt serves as a preservative and light illuminates.

Jesus calls us "the salt of the earth" and "the light of the world" because ast Christians we are to preserve the influence of Christ in a society that Satan continually seeks to corrupt with his evil deceit. And we are to illuminate a way of life which Satan wants the world to ignore and ultimately forget.

When it comes to marriage, we have to stop and ask, how would God have us live in the present world. How are husbands and wives to be salt and light in the present world?
