Bearing Witness Of The Light
In the Prologue to his gospel, the apostle John introduces another man named John. A man who was sent from God (John 1:6). A man who came to bear witness of the Light (John 1:7). This man, of course, was John the Baptist. John the apostle makes it clear that this other "John" was not the Light. Not only here in the prologue but also immediately following the prologue. John the Baptist's purpose in bearing witness of the Light was that all might believe. John was not the only person to bear witness of the light. Others did before he came and others have since he came.
Those in the past faithfully bore witness of the Light. The forerunners (the prophets and John the Baptist). The followers (the apostles and early
disciples).
What about us today? Do we bear witness of the Light by our unity with one another? Do we bear witness of the Light through transformed lives? Do
we bear witness of the Light through proclaiming the Word?
