And First Place Goes To
No doubt somewhere in a drawer, on a wall or shelf we have a ribbon, plaque or trophy with our name on it.
For some of us it is a first-place award for something in which we participated —
an academic or athletic event, a fishing, hunting or county fair event, or any of a host of other things.
We as parents love to celebrate and rejoice over such achievements by our children.
We wait with eager anticipation as the
announcer declares, “and first place goes to . . .” and then speaks the name of our child or grandchild.
However, there is One, of whom Paul writes, that is to have first place in everything.
It isn’t because He has beaten others out of the position, but because it has always been His place.
Paul wants us to know that Jesus Christ is to have first place in everything.
This morning, I would like for us to consider all the reasons which Paul gives for this and then ask ourselves where Jesus Christ stands in our own lives.
