To Be Served Or To Serve?

Preacher:
Passage: Mark 10:41-45
Service Type:

In Mark chapter 10 there is a series of tense situations that lead to one answer for all the problems. In the final tense situation of the series in Mark 10, “James and John, the two sons of Zebedee,” asked a favor from Jesus. They requested, “Grant that we may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left, in Your glory.” Jesus had to say, “You do not know what you are asking…to sit on My right or on My left, this is not Mine to give.” The Bible says, “Hearing this, the ten began to feel indignant with James and John.” Jesus used this last tense situation to set forth the conditions for true greatness. "Calling them (the twelve) to Himself, Jesus said to them, ‘You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all” (Mark 10:42-44). The standard of greatness, by serving, has been set at giving one’s life for another person. Are you here to be served or to serve?
