Passage: Colossians 3:12-14

Perhaps in your lifetime you have heard the words, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery . . .” These words come from an Irish poet by the name of Oscar Wilde. Did you know, however, that there is more to the quote? It actually states “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.” As Christians, you and I are called upon to be imitators: “Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children” (Ephesians 5:1). “Be imitators of me, just as I also am of Christ” (1 Corinthians 11:1). When we imitate our heavenly Father and His Son, we glorify their names. I would like for us to look at the compassion which Jesus not only taught and exemplified in His own life, but which He also desires in ours.
