Nehemiah: A Lesson In Courage
Courage is everywhere admired, approved and acknowledged.
This October will mark the 527th anniversary of Christopher Columbus’ discovery of the western world. His courage, marked by his stamina and indomitable spirit still inspire us today.
Thirty-three years ago this past April, the Christian Chronicle related the story of Azia Amni, a native of Afghanistan who was converted by an American couple living in the city of Kabul. He understood well the warning of Jesus, “If they persecuted Me, they will persecute you.”
No doubt, one of the most courageous men in the Old Testament is Nehemiah. In the book that bears his name, Nehemiah introduces himself to us with these words: “I was in Susa the capitol . . . I was the cupbearer to the king” (Nehemiah 1:1, 11).
