We Are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder

Jacob did not walk up the ladder even in his dream, but it took him to a higher level. He left the old behind and became a man of faith, a man of prayer, and a man of obedience. God has established a means of communication with us (Acts 10:36). This communication comes through His Son (Hebrews 1:1 and 2) and has been written down (1 Corinthians 2:12-13). In this written communication we have been given the opportunity to leave our past behind and to restore our relationship with God (2 Corinthians 5:18-19). In order to restore the relationship between He and us, God sent His Son to die for us (John 3:16) showing His love for us (Romans 5:8). He has also made many promises to those who will obey Him. He has promised to forgive our sin (Acts 2:38), adopt us as His children (1 John 3:1 and 2), grant us access to His throne (Romans 5:1 and 2), and allow fellowship with Him (1 John 1:3). Other promises of God are given (Galatians 3:22) which include eternal salvation (2 Timothy 1:9) laying claim to a crown of life (Revelation 2:10) following death. How do we receive these promises? We must enter into a covenant with God. We enter a covenant with God by hearing His Word (Romans 10:17), believing in Him and His Son (Hebrews 11:6), and responding through faith to His offer by repenting of sin (Acts 3:19), confessing belief in Christ as the Son of God (Acts 8:37), and being baptized for the promised remission of sins (Acts 2:38). To stay true to the covenant and remain in a relationship with God we must live righteous lives (Titus 2:11-14). What does God’s promises mean to you?
