The way in which you and I live our lives is often described by the apostle Paul as a walk. Here in 2:1-2 of his letter to the Ephesians, he describes the way we walked (lived) prior to our salvation: “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins, in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience.” (Ephesians 2:1-2, NASB95) Our obedience to the gospel is to result in a different walk however: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, NASB95) “Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,” (Ephesians 4:1, NASB95) Paul had just finished addressing the Corinthian Christians their new self and the renewed mind which was to identify them as Christians. In our text tonight, he begins from here and points in the direction their walk and ours is to take us.
