The Signet Ring of God
A signet was an ancient means of identification. The seal was distinctively etched in stone, metal, or ivory and would hung on a person’s neck or be worn as a ring on the hand. The signet would be pressed in soft clay to confirm an agreement or transaction.
“The Greek historian Herodotus said in about 430 B.C. that every Babylonian carried a seal-ring. Egyptians normally wore one on a finger, and most Hebrews carried one on a string around the neck. These signets were usually closely guarded as the seal’s imprint served as a personal signature.”
