The Light of the World
When you and I follow Jesus, we aren’t just given a fleeting glimpse of life. No, our whole life is illuminated. One thing which served as a constant assurance of God’s presence during those forty years of the Israelites wandering in the wilderness is described in Exodus 13:20-22. "The Lord was going before them in a pillar of cloud by day to lead them on the way, and in a pillar of fire by night to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night." Once the Israelites entered the promised land, the light was no longer needed — once the Feast was over, the light was put out. Jesus proclaimed Himself to be not just the light of Israel, but the Light of the World. His promise is that all who follow Him “will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life."
