When it comes to the topic of grace, there is often a good bit of confusion. People tend to gravitate to one of two extremes in their understanding of it. One extreme is the result of the way the world around us works. 1.) Our world functions on a merit system. 2.) In the spiritual world, there are those who teach a merit based salvation. The other extreme abuses God's grace in its allowance of sinful behavior. In the text today, Paul corrects both of these misconceptions.

The reason Jesus, the grace of God, came to this earth was; a.) to prepare a people for Himself. 1.) "to redeem us from every lawless deed" 2.) "to purify us and make us His own possession." His desire, that we become a people who are zealous of good works. And one day He is coming back in all His glory and we shall see Him. His return for us is our "blessed hope", but only if we are Christians.
