Why do you think intelligent people, from presidents down, can't, don't or won't understand the scriptures enough to know the plan of salvation?
There is no one answer to this question.
None of us know the thoughts and intents of another person's heart. And we are not privy to all of Satan's schemes. Also, intelligent people can be deceived just like any other person.
