Today, as we start our emphasis on missions, I thought it would be good to look at the work we are doing here in our own community of Humphreys County. Just before our Lord ascended back to His father, Jesus spoke these words to His apostles which we find in Acts 1:8, “but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” That is exactly what the apostles did. Beginning with the pouring out of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles on the day of Pentecost and continuing through to the stoning of Stephen at the end of Acts 7, everything we read is about the growth of the Christian faith in Jerusalem.

I would like to do two things this morning in the time we have remaining: a. First, I would like to give you an update on the things which have been happening here since the flood, almost nine months ago. b. Second, I would like for us to at some things which Paul says in our text this morning as to how we can enter this door of opportunity and continue to effectively serve our Lord in this community.
