Brutal Honesty with a Measure of Compassion
The punchline in some parables is brutal honesty about how the people were living versus how they should be living. Jesus told parables because He wanted people to understand the kingdom of
God. He taught people spiritual truth, religious principles, or moral lessons because He wants all people to live right. Brutal honesty was what they needed. Compassion was what they wanted. Jesus gave them both.
The brutal honesty of Jesus is not just seen in the parables. It is found in most of His narrative teachings in the gospels.
