“Rise Up, O Men of God!”
In 1911, William Pierson Merrill penned the words which form the title of our lesson this morning.
Permit me to share the words of the first stanza with you:
Rise up, O men of God!
Have done with lesser things;
Give heart and soul and mind and strength
To serve the King of kings.
God calls us to “have done with lesser things,” to “give our heart and soul and mind and strength to serve the King of kings.”
You and I are stewards of something greater than ourselves and while Paul was called to make greater sacrifices than any of us, we find in his words a call to
a. An attitude we are to adopt
b. A mystery we are to make known
c. A purpose we are to pursue
As we examine Paul’s words this morning, I pray that you will decide to rise up and serve the King of kings.
