Our word for this lesson is the word, sovereignty. Both the Old Testament Hebrew word and the New Testament Greek word from which we get sovereignty denote "a kingly reign."

It is out of God's sovereignty that He made man in the beginning and then judged him when he sinned. He then sent the flood in Noah's day. Then He scattered the people following the tower of Babel incident. He also chose Abram to leave Ur of the Chaldees in the Mesopotamian valley and brought him to the land of Canaan making three promises.

The rest of the Bible after Genesis 12 has to do with God's fulfillment of that promise to Abram.
