When Jesus said to the people, “Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (v. 46), He was drawing from the words of an Old Testament prophet, Ezekiel.

In Ezekiel 33:30, God told the prophet that his fellow citizens were standing around in the city of their captivity and in their homes there saying to one another, “Come now and hear what the message is which comes from the Lord.”

Jesus knew that there were those who were coming to hear Him who were no different than those in Ezekiel’s day.

The question for us is do we hear the words of our Lord and put them into practice, or do we ignore those things He calls us to do?
