What Is Sin?
Sin is the breaking of the law. “the one who does sin does the lawlessness also” (1 John 3:4) . To do sin (to commit sin) is lawlessness (the negating of whatever is comprised in the concept “law.”
God’s law has been given to guide us to obedience and righteousness. When we sin we are doing the opposite of obedience and righteousness (Romans 6:16-18).
