In the days of Job, Satan used three of his friends (Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar) to convince him that all of his suffering was because he had sinned and God was punishing him. His ultimate goal was to persuade Job to curse God.
The greatest wealth which you or I can possess is the knowledge of Christ and the assurance that knowledge gives us regarding eternal life and how to live. You and I both know people who are looking in all sorts of places for meaning, significance, and happiness, but they are looking in all the wrong places. It is in Christ alone “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” are found. They are hidden, not in the sense that they are kept concealed, but that they are stored up in one place only, and that is in Christ.
When the Spirit of God led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:1), Satan quoted Scripture in an effort to tempt Jesus to sin (Matthew 4:6). Where are you looking meaning, significance, and happiness? True fulfillment?
