We live in a society today that does not like “either-or” choices. Instead our culture embraces a “both-and” mindset. Terms like pluralism, relativism, openness, inclusivism, and mutual respect are the order of the day. We celebrate diversity and tolerance, we embrace ambiguity and uncertainty, while insisting on individual autonomy. We value all viewpoints and argue that only the arrogant would question someone’s beliefs. It is intolerant to call upon someone to choose or commit.
When these ideas and viewpoints run counter to our loyalty to the Lord our God, we cannot accept them. God will not be reduced to one option among many. He forces us to decide. There is no middle ground.
