Teachers experience it all the time, as do speakers and others who seek to clarify something of importance. Those of you who teach, whether it be in an educational situation outside the church or in a Bible class, have had those times when you have shared a great deal of information on the topic you were studying. Throughout it all, there was perhaps one main point which you desired your students to understand.
a. Some understood almost from the beginning of your discussion.
b. Others might not have gotten it until the very end, just before you were forced to move on to the next topic.
c. Still there were some who never seemed to comprehend no matter how many different ways you sought to get the point across.
Within this last group there were those who refused to accept the point which you were trying make because they brought with them a bias or certain preconceived ideas which they were unwilling to relinquish. Such was the case with the Pharisees of Jesus’ day.
