“Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on the things that are on Earth.” (Colossians 3:1-2, NASB95)
School is out and summer is almost here (the summer solstice on June 21, at 12:38 P.M. EDT officially marks the beginning of summer). Because many of you will be traveling over the next two months, especially those of you with children, I would like to share some thoughts with you.
First, take some time before your trip to search out a place at your vacation destination to worship. One way to do this is to google “church of Christ” and the city where you will be staying. Many churches now have websites which will give you information concerning the church and worship times. If you are unable to access the internet, or need our help, please come by the office. We have a copy of “Where the Saints Meet” which lists the congregations throughout the country by city and state. We can also look up the congregation for you and let you know what we find.
Secondly, please do not forget to leave your planned contribution with your church family here at home before you leave on vacation. It is easy in the confusion of planning and packing for a vacation to forget. Many, if not all of us have done it at one time or another. However, the good work being carried out by all of us here is dependent upon the purposed, cheerful giving of each member. If, for some reason, you do happen to forget your contribution before you leave, please try to make it up when you come back.
Finally, and most importantly, show Christ to others wherever you travel. On the road, in convenience stores, restaurants, shops, hotels and the myriad places you will visit throughout your time away be sure to let Christ be seen in you. The way you present yourself and the way you treat others either brings glory to God or causes others to blaspheme His holy name. Remember, “you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (1 Peter 2:9). What will you proclaim when you are away from home. May God bless you with a safe and enjoyable trip!
