Whether adults or youth, whether it is a new offer of employment or an invitation to be involved in some youth activity, there is a question if not out loud, at least in our minds.
That question is, “What’s In It For Me?”
When it comes to a offer of employment we want to know . . .
  • What benefits are included?
  • Health insurance?
  • 401k and will the company match what I put in?
  • Vacation time? How much?
  • Regular pay raises, salary increases, bonuses?
Young people often want to know . . .
  •  If it is a job . . .
    • What will I be doing?
    • How much am I to be paid?
  • If it is a youth trip . . .
    • Who else is going?
    • Where are we going and what are we going to be doing?
    • Will it be fun, more so than if I stayed at home and spent time with my friends?
    • How long will it last?
If you have ever asked these questions, or thought this way, you are not alone. I believe that Jesus tells His disciples the parable before us today in response to a question which Peter asks, “Then Peter said to Him, “Behold, we have left everything and followed You; what then will there be for us?” (Matthew 19:27)
