God supplies the resources, but God’s people must make efforts to grow spiritually.  The Christians at Rome were told to put the same effort into living as slaves to righteousness that they formerly put forth in living their lives of impurity and lawlessness.  We are to live and walk by the Spirit. God has provided us with the full armor of God, but we must put it on in order “to stand firm.”  Children of God must “pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.” For spiritual growth to take place we must put to death self-interest, study the Scriptures, pray that we not be led into temptation and that God will deliver us from evil while giving us wisdom to stay focused on Jesus Christ.
