There are things in this world which cause us to make great sacrifices, to give our all.
Many of us in this room can look back at our youth and see the sacrifices which our parents made for us:
a. They did without so that we might have (clothes, food, an education).
b. They saw it as their responsibility to sacrifice for our good so that we might have the opportunity to become all that God intended us to be.
Men and women, in this country, have joined a branch of the military and gone to war, not because they love war or fighting, but because they believe in something greater than themselves:
a. That all people have the right to be free from tyranny and abuse.
b. That no one should have their lives taken from them because they are of a different ethnic group or belief system.
c. That there is such a thing as evil in this world, and that it will triumph if good men and women stand by and do nothing.
Such sacrifices, whether a parent for their child, or a citizen for his or her country, are dependent upon individuals who have set their sights on that which is greater than themselves.
