Deacons, like elders, must be morally and spiritually qualified.  For us to  compromise in this area is to invite long-term, disastrous consequences upon ourselves as God’s people.  Being appointed to the work of an elder or deacon is not an honorary position bestowed on people who have attended faithfully for many years.  Neither are they board positions filled with good friends, rich people or successful business persons.  Such works are only for those who are biblically qualified and moved by the Holy Spirit of God to sacrificially shepherd and serve God’s family.  Having said all that, I would like for us to look this morning at God’s qualifications for those men which He calls deacons.
