The word which Jesus uses to describe those apart from Him and His Father is lost.  It was Jesus Himself who said, “For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”  (Luke 19:10)
To speak of a person being physically lost creates great concern:
  • When suddenly we can’t find one of our children, we begin to panic.
  • A person with Alzheimer’s disease or Dementia who wanders off and becomes lost creates tremendous concern among family members and in the community.
Paul uses some very powerful language to describe a person who is spiritually lost (Ephesians 2:12).
“remember that you were at that time separate from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers to the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world.”
Much like the lost sheep in Jesus’ parable (Luke 15:1-7), we may not even know we are lost (2 Corinthians 4:4).
“in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.”
GOD GOES TO GREAT LENGTHS TO FIND THOSE WHO ARE LOST
He is the One who takes the initiative in seeking sinners.
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),  (Ephesians 2:4-5)
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  (Romans 5:8)
God took the initiative and set about to bring us home..
In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. (1 John 4:10)
Are you lost today? Are you a person who is without hope and without God in this world?  If you haven’t repented and come to Christ in obedient faith you are.
