Tomorrow, as a country, we recognize May 29, 2017 as Memorial Day. It is a federal holiday officially set aside for remembering those men and women who died while serving in this country’s armed forces. All around our country there are memorials which have been erected down through the years to remind us that our freedom required the sacrifice of hundreds of thousands of human lives.
Each of these memorials, and others like them, exist to make sure that we do not forget.
It is important that we do not forget because to forget the sacrifices made to secure and maintain our freedom is to take our freedom for granted and to no longer appreciate what we have.
There is another freedom which many of us here today also enjoy — our freedom from the bondage of sin.
Today, Satan would like nothing better than for you to forget God:
  • a. By no longer listening to His Word.
  • b. By disregarding His commands and living your life any way you please.
  • c. By thinking that you are alone are responsible for your success in life and that God had nothing to do with it.
Today, however, I am calling upon you to remember that without Christ you . .
  • a. Were dead because of your sins.
  • b. Had no hope of anything better beyond this life because you were without God.
Remember that God, through Christ, has . . .
  • a. Raised you up and seated you with Him in the heavenly places.
  • b. Blessed you with every spiritual blessing in those heavenly places.
This memorial, set before us, serves as a constant reminder of what God has done for us through His Son.
Remember, our Lord hasn’t forgotten us. Will we forget Him? Let us not forget!
