Every single one of us alive today will one day die. (Cf. Hebrews 9:27) Where do you want to go when you die? We each only have two choices: heaven or hell.
THERE IS A WAY IN WHICH GOD EXPECTS ME TO RESPOND TO THE GOOD AND BAD IN MY LIFE
The events of our lives have meaning. The way we respond to those events is important. What we do with the good gifts and the pain of life is what matters. The rich man responded to the good things in his life with self-indulgence, indifference to the needs of others and arrogance. Lazarus responded to his pain with patience, longsuffering and forgiveness.
WE HAVE A MISSION FIELD HERE AT HOME
It is true that there are people all over the world who need the gospel and the compassion of Christ. But like the rich man we have on our very doorstep those who need the same. Ask God, this week, to give you opportunities to do good and share the good news here at home and to give you the wisdom and courage to respond to those opportunities.
THERE IS NO OPPORTUNITY FOR REPENTANCE AFTER THIS LIFE
The only call to repentance offered to us is found in the pages of Scripture. It is enough. God does not owe us a supernatural visitation. We must “seek the Lord while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6). “. . . now is the acceptable time . . . now is the day of salvation” (2 Corinthians 6:2b).
What are you doing with your life?
The answer to this question also helps to answer another question — Where will you spend eternity? Heaven is a beautiful place, but it is for a prepared people. Are you living your life now so that you can be with God eternally?
