Jesus, in telling  “The Parable of the Vineyard,” knew that He was the Son who had been sent by His Father to God’s people, Israel. It was a parable which spoke directly to the attitudes and actions of the religious leaders who had just confronted Him. He also knew that these religious leaders would cause Him to be beaten and crucified.

As Christians, we are the branches of God’s vineyard — His Son is the vine (John 10:5). He has “blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ” (Ephesians 1:3).  He has given us “everything pertaining to life and godliness” (2 Peter 1:3). God’s desire is that we bear “fruit in every good work” and increase “in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10).

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8 NASB)
