The providence of God never ceases to amaze me — the fact that God is sovereign over all events in this world and continues to work in our lives to accomplish His purpose. What I mean by that statement is this — I do not believe that it was simply by chance that as Jesus was leaving Jericho on His way to Jerusalem where He would be crucified that a blind man named Bartimaeus just happened to be sitting by the road.
- No, I believe that our infinitely wise Father arranged to have blind Bartimaeus there because it would accomplish two things:First, it would illustrate something Jesus had been saying and wanted His disciples to know.
- Secondly, it would allow a blind man to receive his sight.
What began with a “blind beggar . . . sitting by the road” ended with a seeing man following Jesus down that same road.
What is it that you want Jesus to do for you?
- Do you need Him to save you from your sin?
- Perhaps you need His strength for difficulties or temptations you are presently facing.
- Maybe you need Him to search you.
Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalm 139:23-24 NASB95)
- Jesus is calling you today, will you not come?
