Almost 70 years ago L. O. Sanderson, one of our brothers in Christ, under the pen name Vana R. Raye wrote a hymn which was first published in the 1948 edition of Christian Hymns No. 2.It is a powerful hymn which reminds us of the need for God’s children to pray to their heavenly Father. Brother Sanderson titled the hymn, Pray All The Time.

The first stanza challenges us to recognize the loss we experience when we do not pray!

The world has lost the right of prayer,

And saints have failed to pray;

What loss sustained beyond repair!

How blind of heart are they!

In the chorus of this hymn, Brother Sanderson encourages us to pray continually:

Pray in the Morning, Pray at the Noontime,

Pray in the Evening, Pray any time;

Pray when you’re happy, Pray when in sorrow,

Pray when you’re tempted, Pray all the time.

How would you describe your prayer life?

a. Daily?

b. Three times a day?

c. Before each meal?

d. On when we assemble together in worship or Bible study?

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17, Paul wrote, “Pray without ceasing.”

Alfred, Lord Tennyson once wrote, “More things are wrought by prayer than this
world dreams of.” (Lines 247-248, Morte d’Arthur)

In chapter 18 of Luke’s gospel, he shares with us a parable of Jesus which focuses upon the need to pray.

Luke tells us up front the point of this parable — “they ought always to pray and not lose heart.”
