“...The churches of Christ salute you!” -Romans 16:16

Ray Walker

Raymond Clinton Walker, Jr. was born March 16, 1934 in

Centreville, Mississippi. His father was a minister so he moved often as a child. Ray’s father put him on his public feet when he was six years old, both, singing and speaking. By the time he was fourteen, he was traveling away from home on engagements.

Ray is a graduate of Lipscomb University where he majored in Bible, Speech and Elementary Education with a minor in music.

June 1, 1958 Ray became a member of the Jordanaires where he sang and recorded with Elvis Presley for 14 years, as well as with some 2500 plus other artists. He also found time to have his own television show, appear on TV commercials and magazine ads, as well as to be involved in over three thousand sing-outs, youth rallies, and appearances of his own. Ray is easily the most recorded voice in recording history.

Ray has been with us at Waverly, on a part-time basis since May 1980. He leads singing for us Sundays during worship, as well as other special events.

He and his wife, Marilyn, were married in 1954 and have six children, fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. They have also kept a number of foster children in their home for periods of time.
